Co-founders Alex Chatzieleftheriou & Alexis Maragkos start 'C&V Housing' (Corporate & Vacation Housing) out of a makeshift office space in Alexis’ parents’ living room in Greece.
The team set up & make available Blueground apartment #1 in Athens, Greece.Alex convinces his mother to offer €20,000 as the first investor.
Andreas Nezeritis & Penny Papakonstantinou join the team as the two first employees & additional co-founders
In need of additional capital for the business, Alex moves 5,000 miles away to Seoul, South Korea to start a job at Samsung, all the while fundraising for his company on the side.
After a 20-minute pitch to notable Greek entrepreneur, Apostolos Apostolakis, Alex secures his first fundraising round. The same day, he quits his job at Samsung.
C&V Housing rebrands to Blueground – blue representing the calm of the sky & ocean; ground being the sturdy, real estate foundation Blueground leases its first office space in Athens for a team of 10 and reaches 100 apartments.
Second round of venture funding achieved: $1.3M by VentureFriends & angel investors allowing the team to launch in Istanbul, and Dubai.
Alex & team secure Series A funding, raising $6.2 million.
Blueground launches in NYC, its first market in the USA
American serial entrepreneur, Kevin Ryan, invests in Blueground and becomes a member of the Board
The Blueground Guest App is launched, giving guests the opportunity to manage support & services, access check-in details, and even order housekeeping, fresh lines or towels 1,500 apartments achieved, with a growing team of over 230
Series B funding secured, the biggest venture funding round for a company starting in Greece ($50M by WestCap Capital & Prime Ventures).
3,000 apartments achieved, with a presence in Paris & London now. The Blueground Interior & Product Design team design, source & launch Blueground’s exclusive furniture collection: “Core Collection”
Despite operating under a lean “resiliency mode” during the pandemic, Blueground’s occupancy never dropped below 88% before stabilizing at 92% (93% pre COVID)
Series C funding secured of $180 million, valuing the company at $750 million.
5,000 apartments achieved, with a growing team of over 500
Blueground leads $14M Series A funding round for Brazilian propertech startup, Tabas, signaling start of Blueground expansion strategy into Latin America
Blueground enters Asia with its first market, Hong Kong
